Description
A Sanyo Direct-Drive, Auto-Return Turntable with Variable Pitch, Anti-Skate, Reject Button, Stylus Check Mirror, and Viscous Cueing. Fully serviced and completely functional. Sanyo is not well known for making turntables, but they offer some good, solid turntables that are often overlooked, and this is one of them. The reason is, this turntable was actually made by C.E.C., the company that made all of Sanyo's turntables and also produced turntables for many of the turntable brands, including Marantz, Fisher, Hitachi, and a host of others. This is a nice, heavy unit with decent specs and good performance. I've made sure this one should perform well for many years to come. I don't just put tables on Ebay just to flip them as fast as I can like some sellers, many of whom aren't even familiar with the turntables they sell or how they work. I try to make sure that each turntable I sell will last and give good service to my customers. To that end, the following things were done to service this turntable. All the old electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. Lubrication was added to the auto-mechanism. The motor was taken apart and the bearing oiled. The internal mechanics were inspected and looked as good as when it was manufactured. New silicone damping fluid was added to the cueing mechansm for gentle descent of the tonearm onto the record. The speed control potentiometers were sprayed with De-Oxit to clean the contact surfaces. Not only that, the stylus on the Audio Technica AT-12E cartridge was replaced with a brand new 0.3 X 0.7 mil elliptical $35 stylus and adjusted for correct overhang. (I'm amazed at how many turntables come to me where somebody simply threw a cartridge on the arm without adjusting for the critical overhang factor.) So why buy a turntable that someone simply "tested" and declared to be working, when you can have one that has been fully serviced. This turntable is ready to go and last for many more years. As for the cartridge, the AT 12E is a very nice cartridge with a pleasing sound that won't fatigue the ears, having a nice smooth tone to its delivery. It's very much like all the Audio Technica "brick" style cartridges that were mostly alike other than the type of stylus that came on them. The channel separation is very good. The new 0.3 X 0.7 stylus I installed replaced the original, which was broken off when I got it. The nice thing about this cartridge is you can upgrade the stylus to a Shibata stylus someday and turn this cartridge into a stellar performer. It already sounds so good that Maisy the dog says, "Dad, can you play some more music on this turntable?" Lol! As for cosmetics, this table is in good condition. There is some slight darkening along the front edge that a little ArmorAll might even out. Not too many signs of use for the most part on either the plinth or cover, which has no cracks anywhere. The feet are in nice pliable condition and seem to be well suited to reduce unwanted vibrations from external sources. The platter mat might benefit from being replaced in a few years from now, but for now it will work just fine. In all, a lovely table that is fully functional and should stay that way for many years. Although I replaced the capacitors on this TP-1020, which I didn't do on the other TP-1020 I have for sale, I am keeping the price the same as the other because this unit is not quite as good cosmetically, yet still very nice. You can see the specs for this turntable and cartridge below. I will package your new turntable with the utmost care to make sure it gets to you intact.
